Consider
The microphones and processor sit behind the ear, while the speaker sits in the ear canal under a dome or custom mould.
The receiver is exposed to the ear-canal environment; domes, wax filters and receivers need routine care.
Sits behind the ear with a tube to an earmould in the ear canal.
The most visible style; the tube and earmould need regular cleaning.
A custom shell sits in the outer bowl of the ear and contains all the main components.
More visible than CIC or IIC; may create a fuller feeling in the ear.
A custom-made shell sits mainly within the ear canal, barely visible at the entrance.
Small batteries and controls can be harder to handle; not appropriate for every ear canal.
A very small custom device sits more deeply in the ear canal and is usually removed using a fine filament.
Its small size can make insertion, removal and battery changes more difficult; not suitable for every canal shape.
Illustrations are general guides, not exact products or scale. An audiologist will recommend a style after assessing hearing, ear health and individual needs.
